Larry King

The childcare center is named after and dedicated to Larry King, who died of lung cancer in 2005 at the age of 62.  Mr. King was executive director of the non-profit Council for Children for 18 years.  Mr. King spent most of his life advocating for children.  He turned his causes into a career.  Working in Washington, D.C., and North Carolina, he fought for juvenile justice, mental health-care reform and the rights of the disabled.  Over the years, he won many notable awards including The Order of the Long Leaf Pine, North Carolina's highest civilian award; and the Mecklenburg County Bar's Liberty Bell Award.
